Unit Summary

This unit offers an overview of the life and writings of Carl Sandburg, an American poet. Sandburg was known as the People's Poet because his subject matter was often about the common, everyday, working men and women on whose shoulders this country was built. Carl Sandburg was not only a great poet but a loyal citizen of our nation. This unit will not merely be a study of one poet's views of the country he loved but also of the people like you and me who have the privilege of being born and living in the greatest nation in the world.

Technology Integration

In this unit of study, the students will be given the opportunity to use technology in several different ways. First, they will conduct online research about the author. They will compile their research into a short paper that will be typed and uploaded to our class Wiki. Finally, they will create a technology-based visual aid to use while they present their research to the class. They may choose to make a PowerPoint, a podcast, or a movie to assist them in their presentation.
